Upon achieving the rank of Admiral in the Federal Navy, Nero received this message from the Federation: "With his dedication to the pursuit of science for his people and his crew, and his willingness to join and lead those who have yet to find a home in the Federation, Nero exemplifies our ideals of peaceful cooperation and the free distribution of knowledge. We hereby bestow on him the rank of Admiral, and wish him luck wherever his journeys may take him."Nero removed the message in disgust. Soft Federation. Ideals. Peace. Luck. What do they know of the pain of hard, honest work? I've built their peace, their knowledge, with my own blood, while their leaders craft messages meant to stir hearts instead of hands, sitting comfortably in lounges they did not build themselves. If it weren't for my crew, my wife, my people, and even those I've joined in common cause, I would've left this cooperative long ago. How I long for Romulus.
