Finally, after months of being caught in a viral outbreak, I managed to get back to Wales City in Atfero. The time spent in isolation gave me ample time for research, though. I learned of a crashed Thargoid ship in HIP 17403.I also had time to mess with the firmware. I was sick of the engine exhaust orange colour scheme of the hud, so managed to change it to a green. It'll take a little getting used to, but so far it's been pretty good.
I headed out and managed to find the crashed ship, picking up the sensor fragments Chloe and Professor Palin required for access to their workshops. On my journey from the crash site, though, I was interdicted mid-system jump by a Thargoid vessel. As my systems shut down from the Thargoid's disabling pulse, I was left frantically hitting keys and flipping switches to try get my systems online.
Terrified that the Thargoid vessel would take umbrage to the fragments of Thargoid sensors in my hold, I silently prayed to the gods of old Earth, but waiting for the inevitable death in the void of space promised by the stories of Thargoids in the black.
Needless to say, when the lights started turning on, I was greeted by my surprised reflection staring back at me from my instruments. I quickly powered up my ship and hit the afterburners, putting as much distance between me and the alien ship as quickly as possible. I thought back the recordings I'd downloaded from Commander Jameson's crash site a few months back, and began wondering who the aggressors really were. Maybe the Thargoids were just trying to defend their space? It would leave me with a lot to think about while I headed first to the Shenve system and then to Arque.
I managed to get the thrusters from Chloe all sorted and recorded the blueprints for her clean drives, then headed toward the system Palin had taken up residence in. Once I arrived in Arque, I decided to land at Austen Town Station, which orbits New Caledonia. I was pretty tired after my run-in with the Thargoids and jumping to and from the Witch Head settlements. I set the Endeavour down, then requested the SJCS Talon, my Eagle Mk II, to rendezvous with me at Austen. I'd take it to Palin and make the upgrades to it I wanted, proving my worth as a customer to Palin and getting access to the more advanced blueprints he had.
