Mission Aborted.
15 Feb 2023Eli the Dangerous
I'm flying around in Bluehairville. Just picking off some Yuri Grombles and Navprat invaders. Suddenly there's a blurp on my comms.
A mission.
Pick up 6 geosamples from there-and-there
So I check there-and-there on the galaxy map. It's a neighbouring system. So that's okay. Sometimes these donkeycaves make you fly halfway to Triangulum to pick something up.
So hey, I accept the mission. I swap the Sustained Attack, Release Decay for the Only the Cat knows because I need an SRV and make my way to the system.
No problem! I find the site on a planet, land without too much problems and start carting the containers with samples into my ship storage.
And now?
Ah! I need to deliver it on another planet, a small base. Great!
I plot a course, I engage my friendship drive, I get to the planet, well... moon, and I attempt a landing.
Landing request refused.
What?
Landing request refused.
But I...
Then I'm declared hostile...
I try a few more times to deliver the crates... no luck.
So I hang 0.5km above the settlement and jettison my cargo, Hope it hit someone. Bastiches.
Last time I do that. People who offer missions outside the proper channels usually screw things up at some point. The target is missing. the contact keeps jumping in-and-out. There's always something. The credits aren't worth the hassle.
If I want to burn time for no result I'll go mine raw materials.
Get a clause in every contract that reads: "If anything about the mission changes after the mission is accepted the mission giver is obliged to pay 75% of the agreed upon sum immediately. The rest will be paid when the mission is completed if the pilot chooses to complete it."
I invest time. That is what you pay for. If you can't organise your missions properly I should not be the one suffering for it.
I think I'm going to hang around a navigation beacon and get some scans. Maybe chew up some more Grombles.
Today was a good day! I learned something useful!
