Sneaky sidegrind
25 Mar 2024Eli the Dangerous
Yay! I made it through the cloudstic that still envelopes the carcass of the titan Taranis. Flying around I see all kinds of dots that represent things I have never seen before. I got a message in my inbox from some corporation that wanted me to pick up some technology so they can improve my supercruise drive. Personally I'm fine with how the supercruise works. The only weird thing it has is that every blip on your radar has a gravity well comparable to Jupiters. The drive starts screaming and there is no stopping your ship until the object that caused it is a hollow point in your target tracker. Of course you can flip to another target, this helps for everything except large bodies. But how a sidewinder without fuel in a signal source can create the same runaway tumble down a gravity well as a star or planet is beyond me. I suspect it's something akin to routeplanners that always include a McDome restaurant in every route.
Oh. That derailed my train of thought. ummm... Yes! Weird materials!
I tried to pick them up and plop... my cargo rack goes non-active. You'd think the offending object would still be in your hold after it wreaked havoc, but no... That'd mean you could transport one(1!) object without grind.
Right... I need some special cargo rack. And in order to get that I need materials. And in order to get those I need to graze in rings, collect the blood of my enemies and who knows what else.
I have never been a grinder. I tend to pick up what I can when I run into it. This method has so far proven to work with engineering. But anything Thargoid related seems to be stuck behind a wall of grind.
Anyone who has read any of my log entries will know where this is going....
Dear cheapskate company, if you want me to deliver special materials so you can get fat off selling new technology... Slavery has been abolished. Provide me with the tools or try and find a grindstoner. Please include a list of required modules in your next communication, so that I can decide beforehand I'm not interested and do not have to discover this after I arrive in the system.
To Azimuth Cambridge I only have to say:
I have had more fun with learning to hoon with a sidewinder through the ribs of a Coriolis station than with all the Thargoid war happenings combined. PVP won't be much different. I understand it's cheap content for you. It's just not what I am looking for. And I bet I'm not the only one.
I guess it's all about lazyness.
Resources in a galaxy are close to infinite. Fighting over them is nonsense... unless you're too lazy to mine them.
The Thargoids fought a survival war after three attempts at xenocide from the monkies.
...flies off into the void humming "People = sh!t".
