I continued my straight as an arrow journey towards Hawking's Gap and made 50 jumps today totaling more than 3,300lys distance, including two more neutron star hops of around 250lys each. I found my first system with life!! There were two planets that had life, one with water-based life and the other with ammonia-based life. I was able to map them with the DSS. I'm sure the data will be valuable when I return to the bubble someday.
So about that hard, left hand turn on my course history....
I was out in the black, mapping systems and mostly minding my own business when, what do you know, I stumble across another pilot in comms range. Even more than that, it was CMDR Lance "Spacecat" D., a Seraphim in the Aisling's Angels Squadron. After discussing recent events and he teaching me some finer things about stellar cartography, CMDR Lance mentioned something about an on-going project to repair corrupt data in the Galactic Database of star systems. He provided me with access to the log being kept of systems with corrupt data and even talked me through installing a new tool that'll help me with mapping the star systems I visit.
Well, back to the hard left hand turn. I was looking through the data in this spreadsheet and realized if I turned towards the Sag A* and proceeded towards Hawking's Gap in a more direct route, then I would be headed straight for some of the systems the Galactic database had flawed data for. Not to mention the opportunity to maybe close the distance on CMDR Lance and make a flyby.
So my little misguided adventure had an unplanned twist that developed into a purpose for the trip. A Serendipity. This bodes well for the rest of the trip... Even if it means that I don't really have a destination any more other than mapping the systems with flawed data.
I forgot to get a picture with the camera drone before I got into bed. I guess this logbook entry just won't have one. Or maybe I'll get one when I wake up in the morning. Who knows.
