Been a While

03 Dec 2019Dante Cortez
I haven't written much lately. Making my way along the Sanguineous Rim, stopping at various F-class stars to see what goodies they might have. So far, a lot of water worlds, and a lot of not much else. I did find a couple of fascinating neutron stars. One had twin water worlds and a nice high-metal planet to land on and get some materials. The other one had - and I could hardly believe it - an Earthlike world! Someone else had been there, so I won't get the first discovery bonus, but it was amazing. An ELW orbiting a neutron star? I would not have thought such a thing possible.

I finally got smart, bookmarking neutron stars on my galactic map that I can get to when I hop off the highway to check out a system or refuel. I wish I'd thought of it earlier; I could have a nice trail record. Well, we learn as we go.

I'm taking it slow these days. Lots of distractions - I've been spending too much time trying to track down the source of a bunch of various creaks and rattles. I swear my ship is haunted. All the seals are at max integrity, the systems are in good shape (and I keep them that way with a field maintenance unit), and life support continues to work, which is the most important thing.

Every time I think about heading back to the Bubble, I think "Well, just a little further. I've got this neutron star here, so I might as well keep pushing onward." But eventually I will have to consider it, especially since it's likely to take quite a while, even if I can find a neutron highway heading in that direction (and not just backtracking on my own path).
Do you like it?
