And... Here I Go Again!

16 Jun 2020Dante Cortez
Well, I made it to Sagan Research Centre, a deep space outpost in the Thor's Head Sector, and sold a boatload of data. Of course, there isn't much to spend on out there, so I started thinking about making my way back to the Bubble. It's, I dunno, a couple thousand ly, maybe? Tried some course plotting, but I think there may be restricted sectors in between. I've been in that position before - trying to find a path around forbidden sectors - and believe me it is NOT a good time.

So I'm sitting there in the Invisible Slayers' pilots' lounge - that's the faction that runs Sagan - and I'm paging through some maps data, and this little voice in my head pipes up, saying, "Hey Dante, why don't you look in a different direction - maybe further out into the Black?" I argued a little - I mean, I haven't been anywhere near my old haunts for months and months, and there is no place out here to get a good bowl of ramen - and eventually, the voice and I reached a compromise. We're - ok, that sounds crazy. I'm not going straight out. Instead, I've decided to take a long journey to check out something I haven't seen yet: Guardian ruins.

There are supposedly some out Eta Carina way, so I've plotted what turns out to be a 7700 ly course. With my Explorer, that's 230+ jumps, of which as of this moment, I've taken about fifteen. So yeah, this could take a while. Especially since I hope to be finding new systems and mapping interesting planets along the way. But when I finally do make it back to whatever passes for civilization in this galaxy, I should have lots and lots of new and lucrative data to add to the reservoir of human knowledge. (Yeah, yeah, it's goofy. I think I read it in an old explorer recruitment pamphlet.)
