CMDR Log 3: Devestation and the Sparkle of Hope

It's been one week since Federation forces unleashed their fury on our homes. One week since I passed through the graveyards surrounding Smith Terminal. I passed giant slabs of sheet metal silently floating through the emptiness of space, as the smaller, unidentifiable wreckage twinkled along with the stars. I rushed back home as soon as I could, but I was too late. Looking at the fate of my fallen Brothers, I doubt my presence would have made a big difference. This supposed "war" quickly devolved into a slaughter, and our forces were utterly decimated. A treaty had been signed, allowing us to maintain our presence in the system, but we are leashed and under intense monitoring for any activity deemed inappropriate. The idea that Federation forces would be policing our systems sent a shiver down my spine, but reality had a way of being cold and severe, much like the Federation flight controllers now interrogating me everytime I docked. Despite all this, despite the incredible loss of life, despite the fact that our foes seem insurmountable, despite the increased Federation presence, I see something incredible in the quiet recesses where we feel bold enough to talk freely. I see hope. I see detirmination. I see strength in our Brothers and Sisters. And that reinvigorated my spirit. The Void has a way of working that is beyond our understanding, but I see what it does for us in times like this. Many factions have fallen into obscurity after facing trials such as these. Yet the Order almost seemed revitalized. We have shifted our focus on rebuilding and stabilizing our holdings, and our successes there have only raised our spirits further.
In my recent journals I've mentioned my efforts at finding the famous engineers of the galaxy, in an effort to make my ship more capable, and while she has yet to face true battle, the skirmishes I've had with various pirates tells me Zephyr, and myself, have become quite... deadly.
For now, I will see to the other missions the Order has called for. But when war comes around again, we'll be ready. There are many other factions around us who have become quite tired of the Federation's presence, and have quietly rallied to our cause. Despite our losses, the Void continues to bring us fresh recruits.
Next time I'll be there to face the Federation. I believe in our cause and our fighters, and this time I'll have a machine capable of delivering on that belief. The Void Beckons!
