BENEDICTION

"There’s no such thing as the unknown—only things temporarily hidden, temporarily not understood." - Captain James T. Kirk

OVERVIEW

In an effort to advance my position in game I’ve decided to work towards Tier 4 of my Inara Traveler badge and Tier 4 of my Inara Explorer badge.

To do so requires that I travel an additional 321,234 light years, perform another 8,070 hyperspace jumps, and perform an additional 41,259 level 3 scans – a very daunting task!

Therefore, I’ve further decided that this daunting task should be sub-divided into three (3) roughly equal sub-tasks that will be easier to focus on and allow me to “chip” away at those greater tasks in more easily executed sub-tasks.  Those three (3) sub-tasks are three (3) semi-equal effort expeditions titled:
  • McCloud’s 3rd Quadrant Walk-a-bout (the subject of this current logbook entry)
  • McCloud’s Eastern Core Ramble (in the future)
  • McCloud’s Northwestern Core Shenanigans (in the future)

Therefore, my primary goals for McCloud’s 3rd Quadrant Walk-a-bout are:
  • Travel 107,078 light years (which is 1/3 of the additional 321,234 light years needed to earn Tier 4 of my Inara Traveler badge)
  • Perform another 2,690 hyperspace jumps (which is 1/3 of the additional 8,070 hyperspace jumps needed to earn Tier 4 of my Inara Traveler badge)
  • Perform another 13,843 level 3 scans (which is 1/3 of the additional 41,259 level 3 scans needed to earn Tier 4 of my Inara Explorer badge).  Note that I’ve already visited more than 10,000 of 10,000 systems needed to visit for Tier 4 of the Explorer badge.

Secondary tasks are as follows:
  • Visit four (4) of the regions of the galaxy that I haven’t visited yet.  Those four (4) regions being:
    • XIBALBA
    • TENEBRAE
    • KEPLER’S CREST
    • LYRA’S SONG
  • Thus the reason for the 3rd quadrant focus.
  • Visit the most southerly star system in the galaxy.  That being AMUNDSEN’S STAR.  Again, thus the reason for the 3rd quadrant focus.
  • Visit the most westerly star system in the galaxy.  That being MAGELLAN’S STAR.  Again, thus the reason for the 3rd quadrant focus.
  • Visit SEPOSITUS BEACON
  • Discover twelve (12) undiscovered earth-like-worlds
  • Earn 1 billion exploration credits
  • Visit Arm’s End (Perseus Arm - as far out as a non-fleet carrier ship can go)
  • Visit the Explorer’s Bar and Grill (Outer Arm - as far out as a non-fleet carrier ship can go)
  • Earn Tier 1 of my Exobiology badge
  • Earn my Inara logbook ribbon

DAY 1

Having finished stocking up on Jumponium components and SRV refuel/rearm components and repainting my ship, I’m now ready to set off from my home base of Gliese 9106 on expedition "McCloud's 3rd Quadrant Walk-a-bout".

Despite my misgivings, Leilany made a very persuasive argument for her participation in this expedition, so we packed enough food and sundries for her to accompany me.

Hell, it’ll be good to have the company and she’s super smart and an excellent pilot and course plotter.

After a brief discussion we set our initial goal for the day to get into the less explored areas of the OUTER ORION SPUR and/or the SANGUINEOUS RIM depending on how far we made it on the first day. We were tired after all of our preparations.

As we left our home system of GLIESE 9106, Leilany noted that the bright light from a eclipsing star was a telling sign of good portents during our journey ahead.

Furthering our brief discussion, Leilany suggested we plot a route slightly south of east to our 1st waypoint PLIO EURL NB-H c12-1 (waypoint 1.a), approximately 1,719 light years away. So that is what we did.

Reached PLIO EURL NB-H c12-1 (waypoint 1.a) after 26 jumps. We agreed to continue a similar route just south of east to the next waypoint; PLOEA EURL IC-T d4-6 (waypoint 1.b) which is 1,810 light years away.

Entered the OUTER ORION SPUR after 42 jumps still en route to PLOEA EURL IC-T d4-6 (waypoint 1.b). Not finding too many undiscovered systems yet.

Discovered a TERRAFORMABLE WATER WORLD at 45 jumps (2,980 light years) into our journey at PLOEA EURL LW-I C11-0. No other worthwhile bodies in the system.

We arrived at our 2nd waypoint of PLOEA EURL IC-T D4-6 (waypoint 1.b) without much ado. Nothing really of note thus far except for the single TERRAFORMABLE WATER WORLD noted above. We are starting to see less and less explored systems though, so Leilany suggested we might change our plotter star filter soon so as to just travel through systems with a higher likelihood of containing Earth Like Worlds (ELWs) (i.e. K, G, F, and A types only).

58 jumps and 3,720 light years into our journey at PLOEA EURL IC-T D4-6 (waypoint 1.b). Pretty much going to continue heading slightly south of east to our 3rd waypoint - WREGOI UE-H B14-0 (waypoint 1.c) which is 1,428 light years away.

Now that we are further into our journey and finding less and less discovered systems, we revised our course plotter star filter to K, G, F, and A types only as Leilany suggested earlier. We'll see how that works for now.

Climbing higher in the galactic plane to see if we can find more undiscovered systems.

Found a system with one (1) non-TERRAFORMABLE WATER WORLD and one (1) TERRAFORMABLE HIGH METAL CONTENT WORLD right away. System is PLOOEA EURL NH-T D4-6. Let's see how this goes.

Found a system with two (2) TERRAFORMABLE HIGH METAL CONTENT WORLDs. System is PLOEA EURL LM-T D4-2.

Climbing higher in the galactic plane seems to be working for use. Just found a system with a TERRAFORMABLE WATER WORLD, a non-TERRAFORMABLE WATER WORLD, and two (2) TERRAFORMABLE HIGH METAL CONTENT WORLDs. The system is worth approximately 8 million credits.

Ended the day at system WREGOI UE-H B14-0 (waypoint 1.c). Tomorrow, We’ll continue heading slightly east of south towards waypoint 2.a which will lead us into the SANGUINEOUS RIM. Way point 2.a is GLUDGOOE VB-C c1-0.

ROUTE

This is the day's route - Waypoint 0 (start in GLIESE 9106) - Waypoint 1.a (PLIO EURL NB-H c12-1) - Waypoint 1.b (PLOEA EURL IC-T d4-6) - Waypoint 1.c (WREGOI UE-H B14-0)

THE PLAN AHEAD

When we get started again after a brief respite, our plan will be to plot a route just slightly east of due south into the galactic region SANGUINEOUS RIM. Our first goal is to visit the most southerly star system in the galaxy - AMUNDSEN’S STAR which will also lead us into our first of the four regions of the galaxy we have not visited yet (as noted above) - KEPLER'S CREST.

SHIP DETAILS

NAME: INDECENT EXPOSURE
IDENTIFICATION: X-NYGK
GAME ID: 5
TYPE: Krait Phantom
ROLE: Exploration

An upgrade to my first exploration ship - the DARK SOLITUDE - an ASP Explorer. This ship does everything DARK SOLITUDE does, jumps slightly further, while carrying just a bit more "stuff" (like a Class 5A AFMU and a REPAIR LIMPET CONTROLLER).

This is the ship I made my first trip to COLONIA with and also my first trip to SAGITARIUS A*.  This is the ship I discovered my first NEUTRON STARS with and also the ship I used to discover my first BLACK HOLES.

Recently I circumnavigated the galaxy with it, covering some 260,000 light years on one (1) expedition and also explored the 3rd quadrant of the galaxy in detail covering some 170,000 additional light years.

My go to exploration ship!
