Outfitting this ship resulted in balancing the needs of a heavy superiority fighter engaging ships of all classes according to the current ROE (rules of engagement) in force.

Ship capabilities have been sacrificed in order to ensure the survivability of craft and crew. No wake scanner or chaff dispenser were installed. Open utility ports were used to augment shields and point defense.

Open interior spaces were reinforced and increased the armor protection while maintaining some ease in ship handling.

Weaponry was selected to provide continuous fire via the C3 LBG, proven to be the best weapon for short or long engagements, CQC or at distance, for this class ship.

The B3 PA is most effective in large ship encounters, using the FAS CQC advantage close in.

The F2 MCT x2 are best when encountering more agile ships.

To this end, 2 firing groups have been incorporated into the ship fire controls, laser/plasma and laser/mc, allowing the pilot to dynamically adapt to targets and still achieve prudent/effective ammunition use.

During a recent engagement at the above described location and during a time period spanning 5 hours of intermittent combat, "Durin's Bane" engaged hostile forces attacking civilians ships engaged in legal commerce.

Engaged ships leaned heavily to middle and upper size ships, with a larger number of FAS, FDS and FGS prevalent. Anaconda-class ships were also present in force.

Pilot ranks engaged ranged from deadly down, no elites were encountered. Pilot target selection was biased toward the high ranks.

Using the two fire control settings greatly lengthened the TOT (time over target) and only one resupply/repair run was made. The highest ship damage was 25% (75% remaining), less than 10% damage was in incurred in the majority of the action.

The number of ships destroyed was not kept manually and review of electronic data is pending. The resulting bounties totaled 6,089,593 CR, this eclipsed this pilot's previous record by over 1,000,000 CR. Some miscellaneous Empire/Alliance bounties were not incorporated in the above figure.

The FAS should remain the first choice as a heavy fighter, able to prevail in single ship contact against all ship classes and also successfully engage wings of lesser ships when using tactics that exploit advantages in maneuver/speed/armor/armament.
