Jump Day

It's time. The crew is assembled, the ships are ready, and it's jump day. We leave for the Monkey Head Nebula shortly. The trip is scheduled to take about 4 hours with each jump being about 500LY. Seeing how at max with a neutron star boost on the FSD we can jump about 200LY max it should be an interesting trip. This is why we joined a Squadron. Access to the deep dark at eight times our normal jump range. What I wasn't expecting was the comradery. These pilots are great people who want to explore. Sure, the paychecks are part of it, we all gotta eat, but it's the true sense of adventure and revealing of the unknown. The excitement of wonder and discovery is contagious. That's what keeps these pilots flying, that's what keeps the human race moving forward.
It takes a special person to sit in the deep dark, often alone, thousands of light years from the closest port of call, with fewer stars in front of you than behind. These are self-reliant, determined, and professional pilots. They expand the limits of knowledge of the entire human race one star system at a time. They may not 'fit in' while in and around the bubble, but they fit in out here. I am glad to call myself a part of them, to share the call of the deep dark.
