Setting up operations. [15/01/3306]

15 Jan 2020Thrash Jordan
The last few days have been busy. I have set up a home base in Yu Port in the LHS 197 system. As it is allied Squadron space I can make use of any facilities in the system, as well as do my part by running missions for the locals here. All allied space is very closeby, so navigating my way around has been easy. Whilst looking for a home system I jumped into GD 69, where I discovered my first white dwarf star.  Seeing the jets shooting from a star for the first time is quite a spectacle.

Now that I'm finally settled in I've been able to dedicate some time to my fleet. I have repurposed my Python where the extra tank and flexibility for modules have made it a great runner for dangerous trade runs and high-value resource delivery missions for the Squadron faction.  Now that I have more Engineers unlocked my combat Krait MKII has had some refinements made to most of the internals and weapons as to make it an even more effective killing machine; so far the changes have proven very successful. My beloved ASP Ex has now been fully outfitted for long-range reconnaissance and material gathering. With the engineered expanded jump range and installation of a Guardian FSD booster, trips to and from Dav's Hope and my other resource collection planets have been a joy. Taking no more than 3 or 4 jumps I've been able to restock materials and data with ease. Most recently I purchased a Krait Phantom which I'm very excited to find a purpose for, I think I may dedicate this to exploration.

Lastly in the setup schedule were mining operations. I have set up in LP 410-93 as it has a jackpot location for void opal mining (a double void opal hotspot) and is only a 40ly jump from my home base. Right now I am strictly outfitted for deep core mining using a Keelback. Honors used to go to my ASP Ex but it really did feel like a waste having such a beautiful and resourceful ship stuck in an asteroid belt slugging away for void opals (especially with the snazzy yellow paint job it has now). The Keelback has proven a very useful miner, a great big window to view pulse wave scans, movement is fine as is speed, I can fit a decent amount of cargo. All in all, it fills its purpose. When I'm done in the belt I shoot back to dock up and transfer my haul to a Type-6 Transporter which has been outfitted for defense and escape in case any pirates fancy a try at interdicting me on my way to sell my cargo.

I believe all ships have been given an update as of the 14th, something to patch out the bugs in the firmware. With the update, I have found the displays in all my ships have been jumping or skipping which has been pretty annoying, to be honest. Hopefully, the manufacturers fix it soon. My final thoughts are left with the GalNet reports of the Thargoids striking in Witchhead, I don't know what this means for us, but it cant be good. When I'm better outfitted for combat I'll probe further into their mysteries. I think I'll continue to get settled for now.

Fly fun,

Thrash.
