EXPEDITION LOG #039 - GUARDIAN NETWORK

22 May 2020Leo Keatonn
This is personal log 39, date is currently the 22nd of May, 3306.

As of now my research into the Guardian network has disproven my previous theory as it was stated in . . . log 35, yeah. Using the data gathered by the Canonn Research group, I was able to come to the conclusion that the Guardian network contained three distinct groups.

I have labeled each of these groups around a central star as to make them easier to identify. The first group is of the Synuefe sector which is centered around the star Synuefe HP-3 B45-8. This sector contains the Guardian ruin types Stickyhand, Squid, and Robolobster. Along with the Guardian ruins, this sector also contains all of the Guardian beacons that we have discovered to date. Because of this fact, it is my understanding that the Guardian beacons are not relays as I had previously believed them to be. Instead I believe them to be the most recent evolution of the Guardian network. Each of these sectors, starting with the Regor sector around Regor Sector DM-U B3-8 progressively gets more advanced. It is my belief that the original Guardian Ruins that were found within the Regor Sector were the first incarnation of the Monolith Network.

You see, the Guardian ruins in this sector contain a much higher density of Obelisks than the guardian structures seen in the Col 173 Sector of Guardian space. In the Col 173 sector we can see the second incarnation of the Guardian network with the invention of the Guardian data terminal. These terminals would have formed the heart of the Guardian network as the central processing units for gathering the data stored in the obelisks. Each terminal would be a node that would be able to connect to other terminals within a 100ly distance.

Finally this brings us to the last incarnation of the Guardian network: the Guardian Beacons. These beacons were the most advanced kind of Guardian data terminal's ever produced, being capable of moving from system to system as needed in order to maximize efficiency, these terminals were built to be the final stage of the Guardian network. Using a set of encrypted Keys which were uniquely signed to each beacon as a kind of identifier, the Guardian Beacons were able to work in harmony with the existing Guardian surface sites and ruins in order to finally perfect the network.

With these advancements the guardians would finally be able to consider long distance exploration again, as the invention of the network as well as the Guardian's reliance upon its usage had limited their ability to expand to systems deeper in the Milky Way. With the new beacons the Guardians would be able to create hubs of the network all around the galaxy from which local colonies could connect to the network.

The only problem with all of this is that there haven't been any sightings of Guardian Beacons outside of the Synuefe sector of Guardian space. My current theory is that by the time the construction of the beacons had concluded the second Guardian civil war had started and thus the Guardians never had the chance to expand outwards as they had originally planed.

In short, I still have a lot of work to do if I am to truly understand the nature of these structures, however I feel confident that given enough time I will be able to bring the secrets of this ancient species to light.
