Maia distress signal search day 3

Made it to Maia B but still no distress signals. Stopped at a few degraded signals and found a very grateful castaway in an escape pod. So grateful, in fact, that I now have a sparkling clean galley. Sometimes nice guys DO win. 
Giving up on the distress signal since I'm hearing reports now of alien craft harvesting barnacles. Headed over to Pleiades Sector JC-U B3-2 1 since it's pretty close to Maia and is known to harbor a number of barnacle locations. First barnacle set I stopped at had been harvested, but noticed an "unknown barnacle" on my nav panel so decided to take a look. Found an unharvested barnacle (and got 4 units of meta-alloys) but no aliens showed up. I suspect the aliens got what they wanted from the barnacles.
Heading back to Varati and The Gnosis to unload cargo, a grateful passenger, barnacle and exploration data, and collect the bounty on a pirate that really wanted those meta-alloys (this worthy actually gave me 5 minutes to unload my cargo, but it took me less than that to give him lead poisoning, assuming that's what multi-cannons fire, and a visit to the rebuy screen.)
