Missing fan blades...

Throughout human history, travelers have stories of mischievous creatures and spirits that make off with items ranging from mundane to dear. Now I am not superstitious nor do I belief in myth...but for the life of me I cannot understand why the fan blades from the fleet carrier's air circulation units go missing from time to time only to suddenly reappear. Have the gremlins of our past on Earth followed us to the stars?
