A New Life

Bio-flash works. I woke up in a clinic in Garay Terminal, and the insurance took care of replacing the Maven. I'm back in the cockpit now, as though nothing happened. Maybe it's a quirk of the tech, or maybe it's a feature, but I don't remember dying. I know it happened and I know how, but I don't remember the feeling. I suppose that's for the best, but still... it's unsettling knowing that somewhere out there is my corpse. The eyes that saw Earth probably popped; the lungs that breathed the air probably in tatters. I still remember my experiences on Earth, but this body has never had them. It's a strange disconnect.

But no rest for the wicked. I learn from my mistakes, and I'm more careful the second time I make the trip. I get to Farseer, and we have a good chat over a strong but fairly decent local moonshine. It's not long before we get onto the topic of ship modification, and she agrees to spend some time looking over my ship. It's a substantial material investment and I have a feeling, if I really want to overhaul my ship builds, it's going to be a real ballache. But I leave with a monstrously upgraded FSD that'll take me over 45ly per jump, and a new lease on life.

Having seen Farseer's operation up close, I decide to refit the Maven for mining, and, per her recommendation, make my way out to the Borann system. I'm having trouble with my positioning and fine control still, and I waste a number of limpets. It's oddly relaxing, though - like a cumbersome ballet - and a great opportunity to work on my flight skills. I think I'll stay here a while.

Flambard out.
