Second Entry

I think I got the hang of this thing now. Might as well be like a public journal.

It's been a few days since I returned from the center, and by God did I miss being here. After mingling I decided that I want some more excitement, preferably much closer to home. It's no secret some of the more famous Engineers could always use more help in whatever.

I went to visit Ram Tah, seeing as how he's the resident crazy concerning anything Guardian. I had to press him after he dismissed me at first, saying something about 'Limpet Therapy.' I'm no stranger to how suicidal those drones can be, so I admit that comment made me giggle. He became a bit more receptive when I told him I built my own FSD Booster, without his aid.

After a brief bit of chit-chat about what's been going around Phoenix Base, he brought up the Guardians. I admit, they're more than just a little bit interesting, some of their tech in particular. Hell, I wouldn't have even considered last month's trip if not for them. I was eager to learn some more of it, about it. Ram Tah pointed me to a system kinda in the backwoods bit, told me there I'd find a 'Beacon,' and to activate it. It was obvious he knew where he was sending me and what would happen; He's odd, but he ain't dumb. Figured this would be a bit of a test from him.

So I did just that. The structure floating above the nearby planet is... quaint, compared to what else I've seen. Maybe it's the scale? My ship's a bit bigger than my SRV. Activating the beacon was a bit more challenging to figure out how than it was to do it; Shoot the spots, just like at that planetary base. That's when the 'beacon' opened up, and reminds me as to WHY I'm interested in this kinda stuff; Litte thing, smaller than a Faragut, suddenly reveals its guts, with a data orb in the center. For all the angular surfaces, Guardians like putting important stuff in round things...

I scanned the orb before the structure closed back up, and all it did was point me to another system, 'bout 24 light years out. Actually it pointed me to a very specific planet and pointed me to a very specific spot on said planet, and also spit out some sort of 'key' that yes of course I nabbed; if I ain't gonna use it, I can at least donate it for some extra study. Get this: There was another set of Ruins there. What did this place used to be? What went on here, what got left behind? I got in my SRV to explore it a bit closer when a realization hit me: I had Verity as my SRV's COVAS voice.

Yeah, yeah, not that big a deal, not with discovery in front of me. Well, kinda; Given Ram Tah's tone, I'm fairly certain a lot of other people have picked this place clean. Still, there were a few sentinels that didn't take kindly to my uninvited intrusion, but gave me only as much hassle as the other place did. That is, to say, quite a bit; 1-3 are child's play, any more than that and things get hectic. Long Story Short, it got hectic. Good thing the Jockey can intercept their missiles.

To actually get the Data the ruins no doubt held, by my awesome powers of deduction and experience I concluded that I'd have to charge the pylons, like always. Guardians like Pylons, too. Wonder if they had plans to construct more? Anyway, did that, dodged more sentinels, and was gonna go activate the oh-so common Orb. I actually used this 'key' thing, since the beacon that dropped it lead me here; figured it was important enough for it.

What I got from that Disco Ball was... not what I was expecting. I thought I'd be able to make heads or tails of it with my experience from the previous site, but nada. My COVAS is calling it a 'Vessel Blueprint.' Vessel? Like some sort of space craft? Did I just download a copy of plans to build a new ship? What kinda ship will it be? Big, small? IS it a ship?

Right now, my mind is just racing with questions, and I'm hoping Ram Tah will make sense of it. After dispatching the last wave of Sentinels, I picked up what goodies were left behind, caskets, urns, various relics, and before I return to Phoenix Base I was going to drop these off at O'leary Vision in Segon, for the Astrobiology Research Collective. I know they have been studying the Thargoids a lot, dunno about the Guardains. Either way, more research material is always a plus, yeah? Learn all there is in one subject, might as well start the next. Afterwards I was gonna see if I can't join up their Warden squadron; buncha other commanders that help out the ARC in various ways.

But for now, I'm gonna retire for the day. Get me some good grub and pass out for a while. Getting shot at is kinda tiring, y'know?
Do you like it?
