LOG #7 COLONIA - SAGITTARIUS A* - BEAGLE POINT EXPEDITION
24 Jul 2017Al Tarf
As promised - here I am, gazing upon The Abyss. The longest part of my journey is far behind, and the hardest is lying ahead. In the early days of deep space exploration this region has swallowed a lot of daring explorers. Whether it was a lack of concentration due to tiresome travel, or a poor preparation - doesn't really matter. To be so far and then to loose all this progress, not even reaching the final point - I guess that was the feeling that 20th century Everest climbers was undergoing when they were ought to turn back right before reaching the peak.
Hopefully, those who were not alone, were saved by their more lucky comrades. Distant Worlds Expedition, for instance, was widely known in explorers community, and, therefore, it was full of higly experienced as well as completely green pilots. Despite huge numbers of pilots around, fuel rats and mentor explorers - The Abyss has become the last resting place for many ships, though, not the pilots themselves.
But this is completely different situation - I'm alone here, loaded only with my vast exploration experience and my reliable Asp. Of course we now have FSD injections, engineers impovements and huge databases, but does this make you safe, or invincible - no. One little mistake, one little absence of mind and you are fried, crushed, out of fuel, out of range.
You can say that all these improvements makes you more prepared, I say - the softens your readiness, your concentration. Only your personal vigilance and skill are what protecting you from fatal faliure
You can say that all these improvements makes it easy to reach the farthest rim of the galaxy. I say - do invention of oxygen tank has made later days climbers' achievements worthless?
See you when I see you, lads. Stay tuned, stay focused, stay cool.
