Canonn Challenge Entry 2: Home to the Nest

04 Dec 2020Scopelx
It was at this point that my wanderer's heart got the better of me and I had to depart from the expedition. While examining data from the GalMap, I located a planetary nebula in the Norma Expanse that wasn't cataloged in any available database or record. An opportunity to tag an undiscovered PN was far too enticing to ignore. Unfortunately, when I arrived I discovered that had in fact been visited before, likely in the pre-FSS era as several bodies remained undiscovered. The view, however, was magnificent and a welcome sight after a 40,000 light-year dash.

System: Zunoa SY-A e0

I decided to travel north to visit my carrier to perform a preliminary survey around its deployment system. This path took me through the famed peduncle forests of Dryman's Point and the Sagittarius-Carina Arm. The following report details at least one example of each form of life I scanned along the way.

Purpureum Peduncle Pod
System: Joorau EW-V d2-8

Rubellum and Ostrinum Peduncle Trees
System: Joorau EW-V d2-8

Candidum Peduncle Pod
System: Byeetho VQ-C d13-6

Viride Peduncle Tree in Proto-Lagrange Cloud
System: Byeetho RK-E d12-6

Caeruleum Peduncle Tree
System: Byeetho RK-E d12-6

Dropping into a grove of peduncle trees for the first time is an eerie experience. They produce a strange haze that diminishes ambient light. Coupled with their deceptively large size, this creates a truly menacing appearance. Eventually my trepidation gave way to curiosity, and once I drew closer I found them to be quite harmless. The varieties of peduncle seem to be differentiated by the color of bioluminescence they produce, not unlike anenomes. There is also heterogeneity in the number, orientation, and relative straightness of peduncle limbs based on my limited observations.

I lacked the time to perform a thorough examination of every penduncle species found in these regions, as it was not the focus of my trip. I will be returning to these forests in the future for further scans. Their prevalence compared to other organisms known to inhabit Lagrange clouds merits further investigation.
