Into the void

It all started in the old world of Lave City. I spent a lot of my childhood kick around the dusty streets and alleyways of Central Lave City. I had lost my parents when I was no more than two years old. My granma Amelia said that reorte pirates had ambushed the transport ship they were travelling in killing everyone on board. My parents use to work on an Alliance flagship as staff. Mom waiting on the senetors and the like. Dad as senior Navigator. When they were on duty I use to stay with Amelia. I had big dreams a a child to revenge my parents deaths. Travel to distant stars and discover systems and nebuli that would amaze. But how would a poor street hobo even get to space was beyond me, let alone fly the type of ship needed to live out my dreams
On my sixteenth birthday. My granma sat me down and presented me with an envelope. It was a plain white envelope with a pilots federation stamp in the top left corner. My granma had penned my name dead center it read Cmdr Willow Meadow. I opened the envelope to find it contained a piece of white card. Which read.....
Dear Willow
We are please to announce that you have been excepted into the Pilots Federation's Training program. Please report to Lave Station Pilots Federation Office
Yours Sincerly Admiral harkness
I just sat there in disbelieve my granma had spent her whole life savings to send me to train as a pilot. I was gob smacked. Then reality hit me I would be leaving everything I knew and love to go out into the void of space. I could not do that I felt a duty to my granma to look after her, she was no spring chicken anymore. In fact she was a frail old lady of slight build a bit skinny. Any bump or scrap would bring out bruising or tear her skin easily. But her knowing me better than I really know myself had already arranged the transport to Lave Station. I was to leave that afternoon. Why would she do that ....
