Logbook Entry 5, Cmdr IrisdavoHaving been to Sol and messing about with Cmdr DingBatDave, I decided to head back out in to the black. The plan was to head out to continue my space tourist buzz...
So, full of hope and excitement, I headed out just to see what I could see, en route to Skaude AA-A h294, otherwise known as the Collection of Wonders.
I was honking systems and it struck me, just how many intrepid explorers had been here before me. "I wonder, how far would I have to go to find mainly systems that have not been scanned by said intrepid commanders?" It turns out, a bloody long way!
That was a while ago and over 4,000 Light Years from the bubble, I am still bumping in to systems that have been found by other commanders... one even by someone, with an Irish name like my own... All of this and there is still so much of a galaxy to be explored, Amazing! I spoke to my squadron mates about the need to refine the parameters I use to explore... What stars to target, which format to use in choosing the calculation method for the route etc. While it was a great exercise and a massive learning curve, I realised that I was not that familiar with the Galaxy map at my disposal. Even with an Elite Rank, there are still elements that I did not use, did not even know existed actually! I needed to go back to DBD and again he took the time to give me a tutorial, it was awesome! I was using a lot of it already, thankfully, but some other tools were missing and it opened a new and wider element of the tool.
It meant that I could plot a route to another sector so I am heading to out of the Inner Orion Spur. That should take me well off the beaten path. My initial plan to head to the Skaude System has taken a little back seat now that I am in unexplored space and enjoying the excitement of seeing systems that have not been viewed or mapped yet.
I am going to use this entry to air a wee gripe though, I am out in the boonies, deliberately, and then I bump in to the odd system that has been honked by another Commander, more power to them, but, only scanning the high value targets is a dick move, purely from an exploration point of view, it is the wrong attitude. So, can I please ask the one or two Commanders who may read this entry to please spread the word?,
