Celestial Expedition I - Day 2
21 Nov 2022Annie Satevis
20 NOV 3308We haven't even left the system, and already it's been quite an eventful day! The Celestial Avenger finally arrived in-system, and we brought the Celestial Ranger in for some routine maintenance and to upload our cartographic data. Turns out, we were the first to discover three of the systems we passed through yesterday! Woohoo! Also, we decided to scan the planet we stayed overnight on and found that it was teeming with a certain type of bacterium, so we decided to hunt down a few samples and bring them to our Vista Genomics rep on the carrier. Wouldn't you know that we wound up being the first to discover Bacterium Informem - Gold on that planet? All in all, just a great start to our expedition so far.
We arrived at the Statue of Liberty Sector DL-Y D30 system late on the 19th. The Avenger still had more than 2,000 LY to cover, so I ordered the ship to secure to general quarters at the system it was at. She resumed her journey on the 20th and made it as far as IC 2944 Sector XW-T A24-0 before she encountered a problem with the fuel transfer systems. As she was only 4 jumps away, Phoenix and I took the Ranger and met up with the fleet carrier, where we worked through the issue with the crew. With the fuel bunkers full of Tritium again, the Avenger made the jump to our rendezvous point.
We managed to make 55 jumps in total (51 to reach our destination with 4 more to backtrack). Of those, 17 systems were identified as first discoveries for us! On top of all that, it appears that we have arrived a bit ahead of schedule, as the other explorers are scheduled to be here within a few days.
To celebrate a successful start to our expedition, as well as to keep crew morale elevated, we're going to schedule some fun activities for everyone. As we have primarily three shifts that the crew must cover, we'll spread things out so that everyone gets a chance to unwind, bond with their crew mates, and have some fun. This will culminate in our first-ever "24 hour party" on the 24th. I expect Phoenix and I will need to make the rounds during each shift and help out where possible. It's important for us to try to connect with the crew that we lead, to keep them motivated to put forth their best effort for us every day. I know Phoenix will probably feel a bit uncomfortable throughout due to the traumatic experiences from his past that led him to isolate himself from everyone. I'll have to keep a sharp eye on him, encourage him to participate, and allow him some time to chill on his own.
I'm going to work with my Executive Officer (XO), Hazel Dawson, to formalize these orders for the entire crew. Yes, I'm ordering the crew to have fun this week, because it's important that we ensure everyone's mental and emotional fitness is maintained during the expedition. It's easy for crew members to isolate themselves on these long journeys, and that self-isolation can lead to bigger problems as time goes by. I'm hoping that Phoenix might be able to use his experience to help out those who might be feeling the need to get away from everyone.

We may do a little exploring here in the local nebula over the next few days and try to use the Celestial Clipper to mine some Tritium so we can keep our fuel stocks filled. We might also try to do some "sight-seeing" so we can post some more pictures here in the logs. First priority this week is crew morale boosting, though.
