Even with her pad full of downloaded vids and games, the journey in a pod was incredibly dull. Belladonna had learned of a tiny space where she could stretch her legs and stay out of view of the cargo bay cameras. If she kept using the EM disruptor to shut them down, the crew could get suspicious.
Getting the Destinies Jester fleet to steal a load of pod was just stage one. Stage two was part luck, and part Vodan setting up a big haul of illegal slaves to encourage Red Jade to take all the pods back to the main fleet before handing them off to the slave association. She hoped they would get to any destination soon. The food and drink that had been stored in the fake pod were getting low, and the waste tank was getting full.
Her sim station was doing well thanks to Bell having so much undivided time to play, but she was surprised to feel the heavy freighter that had just arrived at Bells Brake actually dock. After checking the coast was clear with the mico-cam, Belladonna opened her pod and let her stiletto mag boots find the deck. It was hard to tell what the ship she was on could be doing without contact with the superstructure.
The bay rocked a little, but with no gravity or even a window to use, Bell couldn’t tell if the ship really was docking, or another jump. Listening to the sounds coming from all around, Bell decided they were indeed docking. Floating back to her pod, Bell got comfortable and slid the hair-thin camera out just enough to see the above the pod and waited.
The hour or so she spent waiting for the crew to come along and start moving pods felt longer than the days she had spent in the cargo bay so far. Finally, she was being moved, and the lenses were able to catch a partial registration painted on the walls. It was enough to convince her she was onboard Destines Jester. Closing down My SIm-Station, after saving her game, Bell activated the beacon signal she had planted in the ship when they first took her pod.
Now it was up to Vodan to get here before Red Jade’s crew discovered many of the pods didn’t contain slaves; they held armed raiders all gunning for Jade’s letter of marque.
