I have been enjoying this game and its quasi physics. The frame shift idea has gotten me thinking (I almost hurt myself). Light seems to assume that it's source is at rest. So I am assuming that the faster than light travel in this game, called frame shift, merely changes your frame of reference. It shifts the reference point of the ship to space to achieve a velocity that appears faster than light. The ship is moving at the same speed as in cruise but just looks at the universe from a different perspective.
Or it shifts the plane of the ship so that it is running perpendicular to the normal plane. This would possibly cause it to show no resistance in the higgs field so the ship is massless, and can then travel faster than light. Think paper Mario on the Nintendo Wii.
If the perpendicular theory is correct the the images we see in super cruise are more of a representation of the real object. A hologram for lack of a better term.
I know string theory is not widely accepted any longer but think of the different dimensions in the theory.
As for warp speed , I can only guess that is like surfing on a gravity wave. Only that does not explain the jump limit.
