My first rescue mission, which also led to a hefty rebuy and a new haircut

20th Nov 3306I have heard stories about Thargoids damaging starports so that commanders can help to save lives by doing passenger rescuing missions. But I did not experience it by myself since I only became a pilot after the Thargoids' retreat. However, according to yesterday's news there were terrorist attacks on the Federal starport Kepler Orbital of the Atropos system, and I was around today when I noticed. So, for the first time I could use my passenger rescue ship that I had specially equipped for such events.
Several flights in, there occurred incidents such as being stuck in the entrance grille when trying to fly out, due to explosions and the Beluga Liner having a seriously fat ass. This led to delays and fines, but it didn't seem like an issue to just pay the fine at the rescue megaship. Until it happened when I entered the damaged station. I got a fine, docked and there was no officer around to pay it. That wouldn't be a problem if the starport interface didn't thereby force me into anonymous access protocol with its default implications. Or, alternatively, if the starport personnel weren't complete imbeciles that refused to provide me any passengers to rescue because I got a fine for getting stuck a little too long in their damn explosion chamber. Seriously, in case of an emergency, they should skip idiotic bureaucratic protocols and prioritize saving human lives.
I decided to check if they'd also shoot me when I would get stuck there for too long. For the record, no other ship went along in that period of time, so I didn't block any other rescue ships. And after waiting barely a minute near the entrance opening, acting like being stuck, the damaged starport destroyed my ship within a few seconds of shooting. Alright. Would they do it when I have my 164 passengers to rescue on board? Of course, they didn't even scan me. Fuck you guys, and good to know that you pose a greater threat to the lives of your own people than the fire does. For that knowledge I don't even care much about the 19,089,449 Credits insurance cost since sentient lives have no price. I mean, I do survive such explosions using my personal escape pod and seeing the hazard coming, but I sure do not have 164 escape pods that can magically all at once encapsulate my passengers and hop out of a sudden massive explosion. The possibility of such a scenario to actually happen posed too much of a risk at the time with my apparently insufficient flight skills. So I stopped doing rescuing missions. Hail the idiocracy.
During my escape, things got a little heated and my hair tips burned. So I got myself a shorter new hairstyle.
Back at my fleet carrier, I jumped into my Hauler to then instead inspect the damaged starport. For example, during my rescue missions I have noticed that the O'Neill cylinder has been cracked open and I wondered if I could fly in. I failed, but the view was impressive nonetheless. Notably, these cylinders have emergency force fields present, so their atmosphere remains intact.
What an eventful day so far. Signing off.
