Chapter 2

17 Aug 2020Spud_
Finally the day we have all been waiting for, the yard dogs were releasing our new ship to us it was time for field trials.  The ship was almost a cross of today's Type 7 and Type 9 a bit smaller then the 9 but more capacity then the 7.  It had an FSD capable of 18.5LY laden and we were to put that to the test.
We did, we shook her out, found some bugs, had them fixed and we finally got orders.  Those orders were a surprise.

A new system, one we had never been to before, the Empire was expanding, and we were going to transport the first load of weapons and new composites to a system we had never been to before, Ceubo.  Sounds like fun right? Yes, right up until they tell you its so secret that you wont even get the nav data until you are half way there, delivered by some beacon in another system we have never heard of.  Well fine and good, we follow orders, and we had ours.

So with 700 tons and a small fighter ship on board, we set out.  Everything went well until we got to the nav beacon in the HIP systems, and we slowed down to scan it and get our orders.  We got jumped by two ships, but this time we had good enough sensors to ID them, and they were two privateers working on script for the Feds, and Sweeny did not miss a beat, she looked at me and said "the ship is yours" and headed for the fighter bay.

We recorded the ensuing fight, and Sweeny took some abuse, they had better lasers then she had shields, and it was two on one.  She pulled some fast maneuvering though and dealt with the first one rapidly.  The second one seemed to have her mark though, and it was a dog fight, rolling this way and that way, attitude all up then down, but finally she got the shot in and limped back to the hanger bay.  We got her in, the repair mods and droids right to work on the fighter and huge cup of coffee for her, she looked exhausted.  I thought to myself after watching all this, "this is what your dad did for a living, no wonder he is a washed out old drunk.  I don't ever want to be good at this."  We forced Sweeny to her cabin for some rest and set course for Cuebo where the first of the new station types was being built.
