After the updates.

Current location: System; Agastani, Bell TerminalSo, been a few days since my last Log entry. I made my way back to my home system and broke out my Viper to run some missions for the Feds and climb within their ranks. After a tip of a friendly CMDR I made my way to the Tun system to run some high influence missions. Got to the rank of Petty Officer within a day (costed me some in donations to the cause). Becoming Petty Officer granted me the Permit for the Sol system, humanities birthplace and cradle, made my way their and just flew around and visited every planet. Felt good to be back, as my parents had to leave the system when I was just a wee lad.
After visiting every planet I made my way first to the Abraham Lincoln Star-port to see what missions they had for me, before making my way to the Galileo Star-port orbiting the Moon. I had heard a few tales of Galileo and how fancy it is. boy, those tales were nothing. palm trees ling the landing pad, roofed parks and swimming pools within the docking bay, and everything shining white. Ran a few missions for Galileo before I had to tuck in for the night and prepare for the update that would come the next day.
The update to the Core Dynamics Navicomp took longer than anticipated. Grounding me for most of the day. Luckily there was a good bar nearby so I didn't mind at all! so after I staggered back to my ship and slept off the booze, I checked the new features out that came with the update. First thing I noticed is that the ground crews fitted a Planetary Approach Suite (PAS). Some new tech that allows spaceships to land on most planets and moons without an atmosphere. It has been issued out to all ships it seems.
sadly however my PAS is not fully functional yet. something to do with certain software patches not being ready or so. For now I am only able to approach a planet and fly in a low orbit (80 km from surface) before my ship starts to heat up too much and crash. I heard that the necessary updates are coming somewhere in the upcoming week. and that we also will get acces to SRV's to drive around on the surface. That'll be nice, to have firm ground under my boots again.
Next there was the update to the ol' Bulletin Board, now it is called the Mission Board and at each star-port and outpost you have several representatives from different minor factions offering missions, making things a lot more personal and friendly. I personally like it a lot more than the old setup. Finally some human interaction!
And then there's the update to the on-board radio. Before it could only be used to talk to other CMDR's while in normal space, and pick up radio broadcasts from Radio Sidewinder and the like. After the update it is able to pick up the radio chatter from the Traffic Control on star-ports. Before that it went through the Navcomp and had you to rely on the on-board AI. It is so much nicer to actually hear the Traffic Control and be able to talk to them directly.
I stowed my Type-6, The Integrity, at Galileo and have been flying my V. MK. IV, the Defiance, pretty much since the update, as it seems that Pirates and the like got some weapons somehow that make trading a very dangerous occupation at the moment. I heard talks of Engineers being able to make weapons better or so. but those are just rumors as of now. Heard they hide on planets, so when I get the updates for the PAS next week I'm going to search them out and hopefully get some of the good stuff the pirates are having all ready and level the playing field.
As of now I got 3 more missions to complete before I can call it a day, fly back to Galileo, and hit the pub.
CMDR vinnieboJ out.
