HUMBLE SPACER 25 AUG 3306 (paint)

Avarice! Everybody knows that greed is bad. The Holy Codex says that it's bad. Yet every merchant out there seems to compete with one another in what may be called a championship of profiteering and fraud: selling low quality goods to hard-working spacers and making fortunes off their misery.

Recently I decided to renew the paint coating of my ship. It was becoming shabby: dents and scratches everywhere. Not because of careless handling, imprecise landings and drunk asteroid impacts, of course. I can fly really well most of the time. I was once doing some repairs on the hull outside and dropped a bottle of an excellent liquor into space, clumsy me. It was floating away and I had to catch it with an open cargo scoop. Quite an exercise, I say. Wouldn't want to break it and recover its contents with a floor rag. It would have spoiled the taste. But I digress.

So, I went to a shop and bought a large can of paint. The vendor swore that it was the best, the most durable, the most resistent to cosmic rays and what not. It certainly wasn't the cheapest. I painted my ship let it dry and launched. The new paint began peeling off by large flakes as soon as I engaged my highly engineered Frame Shift Distillery! https://inara.cz/cmdr-logbook/268502/49339/ Surely it was fast: it produced half a litre of booze in a couple of light years - but a heavy duty coating should have endured the speed and wear. That vendor must have sold me a cheap counterfeit.
