HUMBLE SPACER 9 SEP 3306 (cold)

10 Sep 2020Igli
Deep space is my abode... Cold, it's very cold now that I've minimized power consumption just to keep running. The nuclear heart of my ship can barely provide the drive, thrusters and life support. Climate control subsystems are off and I wrap myself up in a large federation flag to keep warm. I have to wear bulky spacesuit boots all the time and a piece of thermal foil isolation on my head.

I partly disassembled a reactor housing protective wall and put a sleeping-bag close to it because it was too cold to sleep in the cabin. Breath turned into snow on the walls anywhere outside of the machine room. I hoped that gamma leakage was within safety limits. To prevent radiation poisoning I prescribed myself half a litre of Frameshift Distillery Booze a day. My Frameshift Distillery - the top priority system! https://inara.cz/cmdr-logbook/268502/49339/

Jumping from system to system allows a rare opportunity to get warm when scooping fuel while orbiting a star. Only then it is possible to get a bath. Not an easy accomplishment, too. Because all pipes were torn apart when water froze into ice, I was forced to fall back to more primitve ways. I fill an empty oxygen tank with water, put on a space suit, then turn off the artificial gravity system and push the heavy tank all the way to the airlock, then go outside and secure the tank on a sunny side of the ship and let it heat up. Then I push it all the way back and to the bathroom. Then I turn on the artificail gravity system, put off the space suit, fill the tub with hot water from the tank and dive into nirvana for half an hour.

Then I dry myself, wrap up in the federation flag, put the foil hat on my head and fly onwards through the piercingly cold black void...
