A Home Far Away From Home - LOCATION: NORMA EXPANSE - 07/27/3306 - Episode 1: A struggle with solitude
27 Jul 2020Declasse
Aboard his Diamondback Explorer DE-11D, in between the border of Hawking's Gap and Norma Expanse, entering Norma.Half way of entering another system via Frame Shift Drive. He lets out a huge, despairing sigh, plagued with frustration because for the past couple of days he has been only able to discover stars that had either nine or ten icy bodies, maybe even throw in a high metal content planet. Jump after jump, horn after dreadful horn, he was quite surprised that the emptiness of space didn't make him settle into cabin fever, only because he had something very important on his window of his Diamondback Exp. It was an aged, old photograph of his dear parents. His father, a high respected ranking pilot in the Federation, during his time in the service and his caring mother who has always supported him and protected him along the way, no matter what.
He is very well used to those systems... You know which ones, when you glance over at your ships thermal rating and it reads within the 20% to 40%, either getting a "System scan complete." from his ships' COVAS, named Verity or by just checking the FSS radio frequencies to automatically knowing it's an icy planet, shutting FSS mode down completely. The cycle repeats.. Fuel scoop, jump.
He began thinking about his past and what his parents sacrificed in order for him to grow and survive. Faint voices of his parents were in his head...
"Keep your chin up, Boy! Do not give up!" His father once said when he was a child playing for a sports team in a Federal space station back in junior high.
"Keep chasing for your dreams! No one can stop you!" His mother said in tears, knowing he wanted no part of the Federal Navy when he graduated high school.
All the sudden his ship comes out of the jump, tunes his radio to *FLUXFM: NeoFM. The radio station begins to play this rhythmic, calming New-Age music, which then can transfer to soft dance/electric music.
A heartwarming smile radiates off his face. "This radio station is not so bad!"
He smirks as he begin to punch in the ship keyboard controls to run a D-Scanner on the system that he just arrived. The radio isn't too loud, but not too quiet so that the depressing horn can be drowned out. When the D-Scanner was finished he nearly sprung out of his commander helm chair, shocked..
"50 bodies discovered!" Nearly standing, was about to jump for joy but then he remembered about the lack of room in the cockpit area and chuckled at himself.
He slightly lowered the volume of the radio station on his right display, he knows this isn't a lot of astronomical bodies to freak out for, he's been in systems that had the numbers almost break 80 astronomical bodies. It's the fact that he finally found one that could be more than five pebbles on his FSS mode. Maybe this one will finally be different for him. Maybe this one will be the home away from home?
*Courtesy for INARA for letting me discover this amazing radio station, it truthfully plays the perfect music for exploring... When you're out there..
