Back to the Light
11 Sep 2022Aveyard
11th September, 3308.12,000 LY out from Sol has never felt quite as lonely as it does today.
The start to the day was nothing unusual. I've been working on returning back to the bubble for a bit of time now, bringing a hell of a lot of exploration data with me. But around... well, I'm not sure of the time. All I know is that one minute I was chatting with the team back at Canonn Research, and then the next minute as I came out of a jump between systems, they were gone. I don't think I've ever replaced the communications module aboard this thing; a swift kick is usually enough to get it back up and running when it's having issues. Despite the fact that I've now dented the faceplate in, though... I don't think it's having any issue. It's still receiving signals just fine; signals that are now scrambled, no thanks to me, but enough of a signal to be verifiable proof that it's functional.
This is worrying. It's been hours since my conversation was cut off, and a facility that big and reputable doesn't tend to have issues like this. There are people around at all hours with open communications; as long as I've been a part of the team for, I've never seen something like this. And on top of this, the last thing that I had heard them discussing was the appearance of a third Unidentified Interstellar Anomaly...
I think that I'm going to quicken my pace. It's far too lonely out here to not be able to talk, and with the mysterious new damage from the dents in my communications module... I don't know how long my sanity will be able to hold out for. I only pray that I return to everything still being in one piece.
