My First Extended Exploration Trip

21 Aug 2020Ceti Fox
It's one thing to be on someone else's crew. It's quite another to go exploring solo. Especially when you can't afford redundant systems, field maintenance units and such. So, here I am, out here almost 1,000ly from home port.

I got a little close to a star while scooping and crossed the exclusion zone. Took a nice bite out of almost all my systems as a result. Luckily, it's not too bad--only knocked about 3% off the integrity of my various systems. The ship's computer is doing a good job of compensating. Earlier today I found my first earth-like world:

The next day I came across why my scanners flagged as a water world, but it doesn't look like it's going to remain one for very long (geologically speaking). I could clearly see some islands. When I fired off a volley of probes the analysis revealed there has been significant tectonic and submerged volcanic activity, which is probably what created these islands.

The sheer beauty that exists out in the galaxy really is breathtaking. This morning I found two water worlds in close proximity, and you can just see the smaller partner popping over the horizon of the primary planet.

I'm getting ready to swing back around for the return trip, so I need to get some sleep. I've set The Ceti World down on a small moon with a really huge crater taking up a lot of real estate. But it's an excellent view to eat a late dinner to before shutting down for the night.

I have a decent amount of cartographic data collected, so I hope I can avoid pirates on the return trip.
