Searching for Answers #5: For the greater good

Another entry from my father unlocked.I read the last entry a few more times after it was published because I wanted to compare the reality to my father's stories, what really happened with what my father told me. The problem is, I can't remember all of his stories, and I don't remember that one in particular. Maybe I'll remember more details from the future entries.
Last time my father was looking for traces of Thargoids in the Pleiades nebula along with his team. They weren't very lucky though. They discovered some Non-Human Signal Sources thanks to the enhanced scanner, but even that didn't get them anywhere.

She doesn't seem to understand how important my work is. How important it is to the human species. She does not get that I, as a researcher, set off on all these distant journeys not to take a break from my family or everyday life, but because this is my duty and because I do it for the greater good. This is my job, the data I collect together with my team can give humanity new opportunities and find answers to so many questions. I don't always want to go, but sometimes I just must.
We set off on June 1, 3276. In 10 days from now, we begin our journey to the heart of the galaxy. Sometimes I get the feeling that Monarch has it the best of us all. He doesn't have a family that would miss him when he goes on a mission.
