Emergency Systems Active
19 Nov 2016PurpleGranite
Commander's Log, Pathfinder PurpleGranite reporting - 19-Nov-3302, 03:55It's been a harrowing few days. Multiple systems failures, including a cascade failure through all data logging and communications subsystems has been keeping the maintenance nano-systems active. Of course, it's also been keeping my passengers grumpy, and my hand not far from a bottle of hard liquor at all times!
Finally however, after multiple restarts, and significant resource usage, comms are back online, and all logged data has been recovered from the hardened redundant backups. We can now resume something resembling normality.
Since the last report we have passed through Checkpoints Charlie and Delta and arrived at Checkpoint Echo.
It's clear we're getting much closer to the core with each 1,000 lightyear checkpoint - but there is still a significant way to go.
We've almost made it from the Orion Spur into the Sagittarius Arm, for which I'm thankful - the navcomp has been having great difficulty plotting a route through the sparsely populated inter-arm area, the run from Checkpoint Delta to Echo was nearly 120 jumps ... I'm expecting similar difficulties between the Sagittarius Arm and the Scutum Arm, and again between Scutum and The Core.
Of course, The Core, even on the outskirts, poses a whole different problem - but we'll worry about that in about 12,000 lightyears!
For now, Checkpoint Foxtrot is in-sight, onwards ... to the black, to the lonely, empty, black ...
