Spying on Thargoids - Logbook No. 1:

I still don't quite know what to think about the fact that I set foot on ground where even a suicide mission would seem too risky. After weeks of preparation and data gathering, I finally found a way to infiltrate the restricted zone. Hacking the navicomp system of the ship wasn’t easy, but with a bit of patience and a few modified scripts, I managed to bypass the security protocol, at least for this one system. For a few minutes, I felt like my head was going to explode from the focus on coding, but thankfully, my client helped me, and it looks like he's going to be a big player in the future. I don't even want to know where his connections reach. Anyway, the result was impressive. I was in.The flight through the system fortunately went without any encounters. I got lucky. Otherwise, I'd have to repeat this mission another day. Everything had to happen quickly. Immediate activation of SCO, fly to the planet in the fastest time possible, and drop from orbit near the coordinates. If I truly believe in anything, it's my Chieftain. I landed in a crater, which I had to mask quickly using a gift from my client. I’ve never seen a better Thargoid deterrent. It was some sort of nitrogen generator that filled the crater with an opaque cold fog. Primitive, but effective.
And then came the most annoying part. A two-hour hike. The gravity was mild, but carrying a bag full of batteries and equipment was still a hassle. As I neared the coordinates, a black portal appeared in the sky. It was an interceptor that flew out. I recognized the Basilisk. I climbed a hill and began observing through my binoculars. What I saw will stay with me forever.
Less than 5 kilometers ahead of me were the Thargoids. Not ships, but the actual beings. I had read a brochure about them earlier. It was accurate, but still insufficient. I don't know, in my opinion, they didn’t resemble insects at all. They were in groups, and each unit moved as one. It seemed like they were communicating with each other without any obvious sound. When one moved, the rest immediately reacted. The air around them vibrated, as if their presence had some kind of electromagnetic interaction with the environment.
They had a structure I had never seen before. Their bodies were like a biological-mechanical hybrid – remnants of an exoskeleton, with complex organic growths forming around it. Something about their bodies seemed connected to technology, and everything around them vibrated with unknown frequencies. Yet, in their movements, there was something very purposeful and methodical.
I watched as one of the Thargoids interacted with a device near the wreckage of the ship. It was something like a large machine with unknown artifacts placed on its sides. Slowly and with precision, it inserted one of its limbs into the device, and it seemed like they were analyzing something. If I had gotten any closer, they would have undoubtedly detected me. My heart was racing wildly. Their interaction with the system resembled some kind of ritual or research. It was both fascinating and terrifying.
Once the initial shock wore off, I realized that the wrecked ship they were working on didn’t mean anything to me. Of course, it was a wreck with plenty of debris around. But... was it a human ship? I know every human ship, every Thargoid vessel in detail. But here, I wasn’t sure what I was actually seeing.
I stayed there, and although I was well masked, every moment I felt like the Thargoids might somehow detect me. Their technology is so advanced, I could never be sure if I was truly safe.
It's hard to say exactly what was happening on the planet. Perhaps it was some kind of research related to the wrecked ship. That’s always how it is with them. As soon as you uncover something, you’re left with even more unanswered questions.
I had to leave the area. I had seen enough. Besides, my batteries were running low.
