Chapter 3 - Eta Carina

17 Mar 2021Rsimpson500
I've finally arrived at the Eta Carina Nebula after a fascinating 15,000 light year journey. My father would have loved some of the sights I've seen en route and I tried to honour his memory by taking the best photos I could along the way. Armed with his notebooks I've been scouring Guardian sites out here, hoping to find one which matches the sketches he made. If I can track down where he's visited, I might be one step closer to finding him. After hours of fruitless exploration I finally found one that matches his drawings:

The layout is fascinating. I spent a long time scanning all the terminals for data and rolling around the site. I almost got stuck in the bowl-like pit in the centre. I'm certain he's been here, it matches his description perfectly. So now I know that the eastern ruins he found - and returned from - are these Eta Carina sites. I now have to work out which northern sites - nearer the Core and out in the Gallipolis - he also visited. Once I've done that I can finally work out where he was headed on that last fateful journey and I'll re-trace his steps.

Whilst I was at the site, which was so peaceful yet eerie, I felt deeply connected to my parents. I could almost see my mother working on a ruin site or my father swooping in from orbit to map a new find.

If only they hadn't been taken from me, we could have all visited these site together as a family. I try not to get too angry - I can't control what happened and it doesn't serve anything - but I did find myself designing a new anti-Thargoid ship whilst in supercruise. Once I get back to the Bubble I'm going to outfit a Krait with Guardian rails, AX multicannons and a thermal beam laser and strike back at the Thargoid scouts who killed my mother. FInding my father is important, but there's a time and place for vengeance too...
