Private Log- The Elusive Mirage, Part I

Not many people know who the head scientist and engineer of CTAC is. I do.Mirage is a hell of a person. like, lots of person packed into a frame that's a whole head shorter than me. They're genderfluid, and with an impressive feat of bioengineering, they are able to "swap-out" anatomy and body fat distribution as they please, which was a bit confusing at first, but it's absolutely wonderful.
First I learned they were an apprentice of Domino Green and had done much of the development of Domino's incredible gift to CTAC. Domino is wonderful too, don't get me wrong, but Mirage is just... More calm and collected. Which, knowing Domino, isn't saying much.
Later, I learned that before they apprenticed under Domino Green, they were an apprentice of Ram Tah for a few years. Holy shit? Yeah, holy shit. So I asked them about it, and... they had something to say.
"Ram Tah is concerned with defending humanity against the Thargoids. I get that, honestly. But I don't want to be working on weapons. Life is too damn precious to me. And I have to do what I can to make sure that this war doesn't devolve humanity into something not worth defending. The only reason humanity is even worthy of existence, of taking up space and resources like we do, is because we can care for each other. we canlove. And Ram just straight-up fucking isn't a part of that. Have I had violent ideations about having my fist 'Ram' into his face? Of course I have. He's an absolute fucking cunt."
"Aren't you almost half a meter shorter than him?"
"I can fuckin jump, ya ninny."
We were both silent after that for a bit, and I noticed that this was definitely not an easy topic for them. "Hey, Mirage... you okay?"
And they stepped in close and hugged me tightly, and I returned the hug as warmly as I could. I rested my head on theirs, and held them in a long embrace as they started bubbling up in tears.
"W-why does everything gotta be so fucked?"
"It doesn't. You know it doesn't. And around here, you're the catalyst of our oasis of peace. You may never reach your goal... but you're already living your dream. Okay?"
"...Okay."

And I thought Mirage had told me all the big important stuff by then... but they hadn't. There was a lot they were still hiding from me, and I don't blame them one bit.
