It's basic sociology. People suck. We could have had peace with the Thargoids, but no, we harvested their meta-alloys for profit, completely abusing the loophole in environmental protection laws that limits their reach to only human habitats. It's deforestation all over again, except this time nobody's planting barnacles as a PR stunt. So of course the Goids are going to attack us. You can't blame them. And the harder we fight back, the harder they attack, and the more likely we all die.This isn't about the Thargoids. It's about humans, and it always has been. The Thargoids didn't want to attack us. They have a basic respect for life, given that they don't attack humans unless a threat is perceived. Their behavior has shown that despite not having full individuality, they recognize and fundamentally understand that humans are not hive minds. The deserve at least some of our respect, because by our own standards, they're better than us in a lot of ways.
The Thargoids are attacking us. But now even the xeno-peace movement has been publicly ridiculed by more influential interests. The Pilots Federation was never free of corruption, but here they are making Hudson's opponents look like zealots. I'm not proud to be a Commander. And now looking at my damn license makes me sick to my stomach.
As for the Stargoids, the most positive outlook I can muster is still pretty grim. Best case scenario, their strategy is to target the closest things we have to motherships, which would be economic and political leaders, and advocates and organizers for anti-xeno operations. Not out of the question, after the first thing to get destroyed in HIP 22460 was Wycherley's megaship.
But... if history is anything to go by, this too shall pass. It'll pass like eight interstellar kidney stones, but... it won't last forever. And for the majority of humanity, including me, all we can do is wait.
Seo Jin-Ae... I'm sorry. This is all terrifying for you, and you deserved none of what's happened to you, and none of what's coming. If I have to name one reason I wish I could do something, it's because you deserve so much better. But, as I know all too well... some undeserving people can't be saved.
Ronni... I miss you. If you can hear any of this... please, protect us. Help us survive. Help us preserve the little bits of hope, empathy, and peace that humanity has left.
