Week 3 - TRIP TO THE TOP OF THE UNIVERSE K2L - Getting bitten by a sleep Anaconda
10 Jan 2021Trickyhicky
It has been an interesting three weeks. I have learnt a lot in that time. Mainly it is dark and cold out there in the black. I have had to abandon my Trip To The Top Of The Universe as it was found that firstly you can't get to the TTOTU unless you have a fleet carrier, apparently, also the route I was taking had a dead end. That being that I could not get beyond a certain point in my Diamond Back Explorer. Just didn't have the jump range despite being topped up with fuel etc. I even went back to the last system with a port and gave up all my weapons and heavy kit. Nope, Black Rat IV didn't or more to the point couldn't jump far enough to get me further into the adventure.
Soo.... I have now decided to take the back route from Regina to Alioth and explore every system that I can and only touch on manned stations when in dire need.
So far so good. I have been through. I have found some great places to rock up for the night as well...
Learnt a lesson very early on when I was travelling back into more populated systems a valuable lesson. 30 Dec 2020 23.50 hrs. I descended down to the surface of Col 285 Sector EX-I c10-12 for the night. Having got to about 70m above the surface I began to scout about for a bolt hole in a ravine or similar to reduce my signature on any scroates scanner. I noticed on my scanner that there was a signal of what appeared to be another ship in the area. The thing was the signal kept bouncing around like an excited puppy. But by slowly trundling about and narrowing down the search area I found a blacked-out Anaconda. No sign of life, no lights, no SRV tracks and it came up with the name Cmdr Paul SIMPSON. Known / Wanted / Dangerous /
I scuttled off over the hills and began to try and research this Cmdr Paul SIMPSON. Came up No Trace. All the while I was thinking "Do I give him a poke or leave alone?" Well, I am in a Diamondback Scout after all. I have got a photo of us nose to nose, but it is on a damaged hard drive at the mo.
My thought process was
- "Is your Ship visible to others when you park up and logout for the night?" I am new to this after all.
- "Is he a PVP and he has parked up for the night coming back and finding shields down a couple of percent might make him consider his hiding place." I wasn't planning to kill him off just a couple of shots with the billy basic blaster, after all, isn't going to hurt, is it?
Then the caffeine gt the better of me and my ability was outstripped by my desire, so back I went crept back behind him poked my nose of the mountain range gave him the aforementioned shots, when fuck me sideways and call me Doris, he shot up and before I could duck, run or even think about ducking or running the shit shot me to oblivion, and I wake up in Oretana [MacLean Settlement] being asked if I want to buy my old ship back for some of the old folding credits. Does it or more to the point does it say "Stupid Black Rat" on TB70"....Well, actually it did that night. "Of course, I want what I had back pretty please".
Turns out Cmdr Paul SIMPSON is a PVE, so the ultimate humiliation not only do I get smacked on the arse it's done by the fecking computer
I have since bimbled around 87 Systems in the Orion Spur some more than once as I needed to get back to civilisation to bomb up and tweek Black Rats IV Load Out and set out again in search of the top of the Universe. Till I found the Cul de Sac of Bollocks.
So anyway I trundled back to civilisation Again an after selling my discoveries, which in all honesty others by the truckload have probably discovered before me, to the Cartographers for a tidy little sum which enabled me to buy a Diamondback Explorer. It is a bit bigger, seems to fly well. Take the heat on entering a system well before I have to dump a heat cell out of the boot to cool down and handles Interdiction fairly well.
Lessons learnt this period:
Lesson 1 Can now in a limited form speak to my Computer Crusoe. Need to get her listening skills up. This carries and financial cost but HCS Voice Packs have loads. I will be visiting them again soon click on link HERE
Lesson 2 Driving and exploring planet surface in the SRV and scooping up bits I have shot to shit to get. No great dramas yet like falling into a ravine.
Lesson 3 Navigating: This is work in progress...... I plot using Neutron Plotter and exporting to a spreadsheet for reference and having it open in the background so I can copy and paste into Galaxy Mapping for next jump.
Lesson 5 Scanning a planet surface using the DSS. Still shoot it all over the show but getting some interest results.
h and let's not forget Lesson 6 arse smacking by the computer in the shape of Cmdr Paul fecking SIMPSON PVE and bar. Bastard still stings that one. But it was a lesson. You do have my permission to laugh because it won't happen again.
Trickyhicky now in Black Rat V signing out
