3307 Jan 7th Frechet Penal Colony

Today I started out the day upgrading the armor plating on my newly christened type 10 "Freedom". I have heard from a few commanders in the halls laughing at my ship. It's the garbage scow of the verse. Maybe. Maybe it is. But it's my garbage scow. Anyhow, I was having a beer with Clarence Boone my first in the bar at Tucker City port. Clarence told me about a job he heard from some stern looking lady called Lang. It was one of the hush.. hush types.. She wanted me to go knock out some sentry skimmers at Frechet Penal colony. The pay was good for a mission of that type which meant it would be difficult. I took it. Yeah. Maybe shouldn't mix alcohol and business. It's credits. I need to buy freedom a new set of thrusters. I told Clarence to get the ship ready. He said, "which one?" in a way that you knew he wasn't happy. I told him he already knew that freedom need to be tested. We arrived in Malaku system after a jump and super cruised to the nav beacon which scanned as compromised. My first convinced me to pick up some extra credits at the beacon. That is a story that you'll have to buy me a beer to hear. I scanned the beacon and headed to Malako B 9 A where Frechet Penal Colony is located. Lang sent me a message that scanning the beacon was not helpful and I would have the find the targets manually. I chose my entry location and dove in to the planet. Malaku B9A is mainly a ice planet but is about 10% rock. Not a great place to be around for a long time. Coming in the the planet I noticed some nice caverns in the crisscross shape. I was able to get about 10km away and told Clarence to get in a our Taipan and keep watch. I took Freedom down to 50 m above the ground and moved toward the colony. I don't think coming in low matters much in a ship the size of a small village but it's my standard approach. On the first pass I scanned a small vessel. It was a sidewinder with Wonda Braw at the helm. I decided to wait until Wonda Braw left the area before getting back to work.
Let's say the Penal colony had some defenses that I had to deal with. One a cobra mkIII with a pilot named frenzy something. He had a bad day. I took freedom up to 200m and laid in to him with my multi cannons. We twisted and turned until I got him in missile lock. I have three banks of heat seeking missiles that fire together on Freedom. The cobra didn't have a chance. When the area was clear I took Freedom in to take out the base defenses. We already attacked so I thought we might just make the job easier. When all the sentry guns were destroyed I landed and deployed a scab. I wanted to investigate the area for the skimmers that I need to destroy. Sure enough they all decided to come out of the buildings or wherever they where hiding. I ran back to my ship with my shields going down. There was a hasty boarding of the ship under fire. I took freedom up to above 200m and deployed my self in a fighter. Those skimmers should be easy pray for a Taipan. I attacked the first one with an easy victory. I found that if I dived in on the skimmers from above that they didn't run until hit. That is when Clarence showed up. He said I was taking forever and we have bigger guns. To prove his point he he spun up the multi cannons. There was a skimmer in front of me. I think. We made short work of the skimmers. No other contacts where in the area at that time. Clarence and I headed home with a successful job in hand. Upon docking in Tucker city Clarence said he would buy me a beer at the bar. Then I gave him his cut. He looked at me with disgust in his eyes. "Maybe... you will buy me a drink with that kind of pay. Next time we go mining!" as he slapped the table with his fist. Little did Clarence know that I was told by our squadron leader that we should always help with influence. That's like credits right? Maybe?
