It's been almost a month since I decided to devote myself fully to the Federal Navy Reserve. In that time, I've done a number of things of which I'm immensely proud and a few things that keep me up at night without a strong shot of sailor's rum. But sleeping troubles are a blessing in disguise. The less you sleep, the longer you can stand on the line against the enemies of the Federation. That's the price you pay when you devote yourself to a higher cause. I never feel too bad about it for long. Then Rochester pulled his little stunt, and for the first time in a while I'm feeling uneasy.
Sure, I understand that I signed up to keep the Federation safe from enemies foreign and domestic. I understand that the higher cause needs to be protected. But I've always tried to stay away from Federal faction disputes. I've fought wars alongside Federal Navy starships to support and develop Federal faction interests against both Imperial and non-aligned system governments alike. I've danced my starship along the trailing edge of Farragut-class battlecruisers as they bring the hammer of true humanity to those who oppose the cradle of our entire civilisation. But intra-Federal disputes are not my thing. That's why I headed to the border regions in the first place. At least the wetwork contracts would be aimed at Imperial lapdogs in neighbouring star systems.
I couldn't stay away from this fight. Rochester wants to tear down the liberties and rights we've spent thousands of years developing. He wants to turn the Federation into one big shareholding honeypot for his own protection. It was my duty as a patriot to step forward. And as a result of this corpo scum, I've spent more time killing starships with an FNS prefix than I've ever spent aiming my multicannons at anything Imperial.
Damn him. Damn him for what he's made me do. Damn him for making my brothers and sisters turn their guns inward. Damn him for every breath he takes.
It's almost time for pre-mission brief. Command says we're pushing the Jupies hard and they want to pick up the pace. I haven't slept a wink.
But I'm Federal Navy.
And I've got a job to do.
