Insurance companies request investigation of possible spacecraft system malfunction

After a significant number of reports by rescued pilots, the insurance companies reach out to pilot´s federation to investigate an alerting number of ship losses due to inexplicable malfunction:Pilots receive a system message about "SCRATCHED PAINT" only seconds before they find themselves manning escape pods because of fatal damage to ships.
According to reliable sources, this message seems to be independent of ship manufacturers or types: "I was interacting with another ship in normal space, when out of nothing, this message appeared and the next second my remlock was activated and I found myself in a cue of escape pods arriving at the station..."
Up until now, no official statement by any of the ship manufacturers was published. The company that is responsible for ship paints stated that in no way, the paint might be involved in any of the cases!
If the ships are repainted by authorised repaint facilities, the chance of corrosion might even be reduced.
So far, there is no reliable information whether the message is caused by a malfunction or bug in the software or if it is caused by some kind of virus.
All pilots should monitor the systems closely and if in doubt simply selfdestruct.
