Deep space encounter with a Flying Dutchman

12 Feb 2021Gregorio Cortez
Heading towards Eta Carinae I found a couple of systems with decent Water Worlds.
I decided to orbit one of them to have some dinner and rest.

While I was having rest I picked up some very weak signal from a Fleet Carrier somewhere 300 Ly from me. I decided to follow the trail of that signal hoping to get some proper maintenance to my Power Plant aboard the Carrier. Having some sleep in normal cabin would also help.
I diverted from my planned path, and followed the trail.

Finally I encountered the carrier.

Unfortunately the vessel seemed to be dead... The automated communication unit on the carrier denied my requests to dock. I was trying to contact the crew. I sent messages on all available frequencies trying to establish any contact with the captain of the vessel, unfortunately with no luck.

Finally I grew tired trying, stopped Hippalus some 10km from the carrier and went to sleep.

When I woke up in the morning, it was gone.

So here I am, again alone in the void with no human within 500Ly around.

My power plant requires some repairs, but it should still work for a few weeks.
I'll need to decide if I should follow the previous route, or turn back. I'm at the edge of Orion Spur and it is tempting to follow further into the black.

Maybe I'll find another carrier to have a stop?
Do you like it?
