Returning to the Bubble - A day in the life of a long range explorer- Log 005

It's hard to imagine what an insignificant part of the universe our corner of the galaxy is until you fly back to it from coreward.  I sometimes think galactic events have passed us by just because our home is in a backwater.

As I spend time at my station scanning systems has almost become automatic.  I find I am given to daydreaming - which is a danger in itself (see my close encounter with a star mentioned in my last log) - but which is allowing me to imagine possible future trips as I check through the charts looking for places to bookmark.

Boredom is a big part of space travel.  I nearly thawed out my fighter pilot at Amundsen Terminal just to have someone to talk to during the trip but I have kept her in stasis as I spend most of the trip with fighter bays powered down and she would just be a drain of resources (callous but practical).

I have taught my docking computer to play chess.  I am still to decide if this is a good idea or not as these days it beats me more often than not.  My fault I suppose for wanting an independent DC.  Gives me something to swear at anyway.

I continue on ...
