In defence of reason

The Vorchan lurched into super cruise from hyperspace. Nathan immediately checked his scanner, looking for hollows, and then checking the orientation of solid squares. All looked clear, and he pushed the scanner zoom to max just to be sure. "Right" he thought "lets go and revisit Awyra Flirbie". He targeted the station, and re-orientated the battleship towards the rotating mass. He thought briefly about pulling his carrier into system, but then decided against it. "We're only here to have a look" he said to himself. "I'm damned if I'm going mining again. I'm still not fully over the last time".
He checked his carrier inventory remotely - plenty of Samarium in the hold, in addition to the load he had on board the Vorchan. He smiled. He had actually forgotten to transfer the load to his carrier in his haste to deploy to battle, and it had sat in the hold listening to the symphony of lasers on shields, and the rattle of multi's and the occasional drum of a missile. Not the first time Nathan had turned a mistake to his advantage, but this one seemed particularly generous of the universe.
He pondered the deal: mining materials in exchange for a double experimental missile rack. Ok, it wasn't pack hounds, but they were seekers and the thermal cascade experimental could be re-engineered without impacting on the lightweight and high capacity elements. Worth getting, even if only to stick in stores until he decided which ship to put them on.
Ah yes, a ship to put them on. Hmmm.........
