The Great Road Trip 3306

So yesterday we got the old crew together! We'd been talking about it for months. Meanwhile I was busy scratching together the funds for a fleet carrier, which finally came together.
The Laudanum (X7K086Z) was finally commissioned!
I set about with some mining and other activities with an end goal of a big road trip. I had no idea if it was even a possibility, as the old crew had all drifted their own ways, like Low Temperature diamonds in the night sky.
As I said, yesterday it all came together. I put out the word to some of the old crew and they answered!! We now have three distinguished guests on board, plus a vast crew running the Laudanum.
Alas, we had a rocky start... a few jumps in, one of our guests decided to take his mining ship out for a bit of a spin. He must have missed me announcing the Laudanum's next scheduled departure and he missed the lockdown. I expect he would have had a beautiful (and stomach sinking) view of the Laudanum making her exit via the hyperspace window, as he sat watching in his mining ship (with no fuel scoop).
I came back from my cabin to a rather distressed guest hailing me on comms. Hmm... I don't want to burn two jumps doing a rescue as I have heard that Tritium has hit a shortage back in the bubble. We're going to have to do an old fashioned rescue. I've become a Fuel Rat!
Two loads of limpets later, and our new guest is safe again on board the Laudanum and we've all had a lesson, and a laugh over some drinks down in the ship tavern.
I've also kitted out my Python "Drink Me" as a refueling ship, as she has a bit bigger cargo hold for the refueling limpets.
We did a test run of our mining rigs before retiring for the evening. Seemed to go well. We hit a rather rich rock with subsurface deposits which yielded half a jump worth of fuel. Not a bad test. With a full wing mining we should be able to reach our target system, with the slim possibility of even making it back home. For now, the Laudanum is our home. Shes holding up really well. I'm really happy with her kit. Not perfect but she will do. It's a learning exercise for all!
I'm going to see if there is a good spot to post our itinerary, but for now we're heading for the Formidine Rift.
