Went out on a Mining/Exploration trip from Colonia.Traveled out about 500LY looking for a remote place for mining.
Scanned as I went and found an undiscovered/unscanned system with High Metal and Icy planet (6 total bodies). There was about 4300LY dispersal between planet, so it was a little bit of a drive to get out the last one. In total, scanning netted about 2M credits.
Found a system with Icy and mineral rings for mining. I only scanned the planet I targeted. I picked a Bromellite rich area. After getting setup, I observed a wing of three Vipers who showed up to scan my cargo. All I had were limpets. After they exited, I began mining. I did the prospector limpet method looking primarily for Bromellite. Some Tritium and even some low temperature diamonds were encountered.
After expending 96 limpets in this endeavor, I ginned up 12 more to help top off the cargo hold. I'm now log on Iron and Nickel.
I netted about 5M credits from mining. The final total was greatly increased by the odd low temp diamond and the 5 or 6 units of Tritium. I discarded lots of water and liquid oxygen along the way.
This will probably be the area of focus for me for the time being. It holds several combined challenges in doing this successfully. First, I probably need to find a landable/volcanic/high metal content planet to replenish my shipboard supplies of iron and nickel. (note: planetary landing is so much easier in the Phantom than in the Anaconda!!!)
