INTERVIEW: TAPE 3
16 Mar 2021CMDR Vypr
GALNET REPORTER: How did you first come in contact with EG Operatives?VYPR: Oh, that's a long story. When I turned 18 I had the opportunity to join a colonial defense initiative. Understand this; I had no intention of even leaving my region much less my planet. I loved my family, the life I thought I still had. But it seemed like a very good idea at the time. My family was very supportive. I was taught how to initially fight on the ground, then taught how to operate a skimmer and then, a fighter.
GR: Was this a Federal initiative?
VYPR: Yes and no. The Feds were involved in setting up the colonial defense initiative but naturally the group was somewhat autonomous. If the Federal Navy made a demand they would have likely complied, but they did not receive any operational guidance outside of that defensive role.
GR: How does that lead to you getting off world?
VYPR: Well I didn't know it when I joined, but one of the reasons that the defensive initiative was even created was because one of those off-worlders was somebody important to a big corporation that spanned a couple systems. They were treated like royalty. Had a big mansion, kids, shiny toys, private security. Very alien for us. They were the driving factor behind my employment as a colonial guard. As for the off-world part, things changed when I was attached to a freighter going to the station in orbit to grab supplies for the colony. I had never been in space before, so it was a defining experience for me.
GR: Who did you meet at the station?
VYPR: At first, nobody except the depot staff. Keep in mind that I was only a deck hand with the freighter captain. But over time, I gained more trust with the initiative and started taking my own, smaller ship, to the station to make supply runs while the other freighters were away on long haul trips. I was issued command over a Cobra at the time. Older one, Mk. II. Eventually I came across other freighters. Started visiting the pilot's lounge on the station. Talking to people.
GR: I thought you had no intention of leaving your region.
VYPR: I didn't see it that I was, I just saw it as helping the community I was born into. That changed one day.
GR: What happened?
VYPR: I met someone different.
