Reefback DE-07k Voidheart Expedition Log#6

I have been here for a while in the Shrogaae KK-A d area studying the void hearts, and I tell you it is a must for any real xenobiologist. Most of the other space organisms that I have come across share many of the same features. They are almost all pod/mollusc type organisms with similar physiologies and morphologies, with a few exceptions (gyre trees in particular, but even their juvenile forms are pods so...). But the void heart is something exceptional, it has a almost earthly botanical resemblance. And the glowing inside of the organism is something that one must experience in person. I was shaken the core the first time I heard the "beat" of a void heart, you will know what I mean if you hear one. Anyway, if you love aliens, get out to the Norma Expanse and see one of these.
On the subject of what my research has led to, I have some findings on what I think may be the primary energy source of the void heart. I think that void hearts may consume or, at very least, use the minerals in metallic crystals. If you have ever seen the large space metallic crystals, you will know that this is some feat. But in many case void hearts are found in close proximity to metallic crystals. I also believe that the spike, like structures that protrude from the void hearts, are actually metallic crystals coved by a membrane from the void heart. This membrane may be an external stomach of sorts that dissolves the vital nutrients in the metallic crystals. All of this is hypothetical, of course, but experiments are possible if the the void hearts are penetrable by some kind of weapons systems. So far I haven't been able to penetrate or even scratch the organism. This makes sense in general for organisms that live in space, they have to be very tough to not be harmed by micro/macro meteorites.
Well, that is all I have for now, I am hoping to observe something unusual soon and may have something to report on void heart reproduction soon.
Until then.
