Log Book #8 - Kingfisher

Crap. I never signed up for being a squadron leader - nor I never actually wanted to be a governor. But here we are, back at the seat of politics and its never-ending shenanigans. At least this time around I wouldn't be alone taking all the decisions, all thanks to that one cowboy looking commander from the papers, Wil4me. Ever since our journey in the black far out of the bubble began, he taught me many things. I was introduced to the guardians and their leftover machines - some were still active and hostile and tried to kill us at every point possible. I studied the things, collected their bits and pieces here and there and brought our fresh load back to the bubble.
This is where, with the help of some geniuses in the bubble that I had built a ship capable of fighting the ongoing Thargoid threat. A ship that has been baptized, the AX-Voidling. A name that some engineer came up with, since its components were made of things lost in the void. I just went along with it, I mean, at least I wouldn't have to take five hours to sit down and think of a name.
It didn't take long that I needed to take the ship out for a ride. The Thargoids attacked a system by the name of ANDECAVI about 120LY from Dalagritu. I immediately called upon the squadron for help. And Wil, gladly accepted to take us to that system. We unfortunately didn't have any training in fighting the threat, so our first efforts were... well futile to say the least. But we soon learn the ropes in fighting space bugs and had an amazing time in doing so. Did I ever mention how bugs can scream in space? Yeah they do. Well, at least the simulated sound board of the ship made it sound like they did.
The Thargoids did a tactical retreat and we were sent back to Dalagritu with a much deserve pay. And well... this is where the whole political nightmare began.
I was called back to my seat in Dalagritu to deal with a commander of a faction called the Ironheart Corporation - going by the name of Fenris Drayton. It seemed like Minister Roland Hyde didn't want to deal with some petty pilots so I took communications and had a somewhat, heart felling conversation. Without much of my knowledge, the Minister had been expanding our home in several of the neighboring stars making a call to action from the leader of Ironheart. We both agreed to a peace treaty and I was warned of a potential threat in the region. A faction, well known by many, was claiming systems after system around their home, in the name of Communism. The most silliest thing I've heard in the longest. Who in their right mind, with a threat like the Stargoids coming knocking into our bubble, would think that the right thing to do at this very moment in time, was to fight against each other?!
Things wouldn't end here. A few days later, Minister Roland Hyde called me in again - this time I asked for payment before coming in. Another messenger from a different faction, this time, the YKE TECHNOLOGIES needed to absolutely talk to the Avalonian Wayfarer leader. So I sat down once again, in the negotiating table, this time Wil4me would be next to me.
YKE TECHNOLOGIES talked about wanting to "speak" with the Thargoids. They were studying the bugs in the name of humanity. I was flabbergasted by what they were doing. How in someone's right mind would think that talking with alien, BUGS would be a -- and this is where Wil cut me out. I think it was a good idea. Maybe it was the stress of it all, who knows. Wil said it would be a great initiative for us to help in their research. Hey, maybe talking wasn't such a bad idea after all? You know, avoiding fights and what not.
So, in the name of my people I accepted their alliance. And to sweeten the deal, I made it so they could expand to Mech - a deal that Minister Roland Hyde wasn't really happy about. (He took out the bottle of Whiskey, it was that bad.)
Commander Dylan D - squadron leader of YTEC came to me and talked about territories for their study. Those were the hardcore type of researchers, apparently giving meta alloys to Thargoids would make the Thargoids chirp at different tones depending on how many alloys you'd give them. I took some notes just in case.
And so came the news of the newly built Megaship, the Kingfisher. The ship would do exactly what Commander Dylan D. dreamed of doing all along - speak with the Thargoids. And so, my squadron gladly helped the commander fill in this megaship with medicine, food and electronics in hopes that a resolution could be done with the Thargoids.
Tomorrow will be the day this megaship is sent out on a mission in a permit locked system where apparently it will meet with a Stargoid and attempt communication. I fear for the worse, but I am hopeful. I'll keep a plan B in case things go sour.
